Best Before Date
These are indicated by the ink stamped code located on the product packaging
On Kwik Lok tags found on the end of bread product packages, best before dates are indicated by the two letters and two numbers, for example MR 25 indicates March 25, which are stamped in ink on the coloured tag.
On a packaged meat product, the date code is typically ink jet printed on the package, or appears on a sticker.
A production code is typically found on those products that have a shelf life longer than 90 days, such as frozen goods.
Production codes for fresh bakery items are typically ink jet printed on the package.
Establishment codes are found on ALL meat products and identify where they were made. They can either take the form of a crown seal which indicates it was produced in a federally inspected plant, or an “EST” number.
